Youth Exchange went to Greifswald, Germany in June 2008
Ten students along with their sponsors departed for Greifswald, Germany flying from Houston to Berlin. In Berlin the group boarded a train for the Baltic region of Greifswald. Trips that the group experienced included the University of Greifswald, a World War II prison, the Wooded Wieck Bascule Bridge, the Pommerschesi Landes Museum, a yacht building business, and ruins of an ancient Cistercian Monestery.
Additionally, the group watched an exciting World Cup Soccer match between Germany and Spain while enjoying wonderful German cuisine. Another highlight was swimming in the Cold waters of the Baltic, unlike the warm water of the Gulf of Mexico.
While visiting Berlin the students transited historic Check Point Charlie, the former gate linking the United States area with Former East Germany. Another highlight was seeing remnants of the Berlin Wall and the Memorial to Murdered Jews of Europe by sculptor Peter Eisenman.
