In a world that’s more connected than ever, today’s youth need more than traditional classroom lessons to prepare for the future. They need perspective. They need empathy. They need experiences that help them grow into informed, adaptable global citizens.
For families in Bryan and College Station, B/CS Sister Cities Association offers a powerful opportunity to build those traits through international student exchanges with our host cities: Bastogne, Belgium; Greifswald, Germany; Salamanca, Mexico; and Toruń, Poland.
What Is Global Citizenship?
Global citizenship is the idea that we are all part of a wider international community. It means understanding and respecting other cultures, thinking beyond borders, and actively engaging with the world around us.
Through cultural exchange and real-world connection, young people learn not just about other countries—but about themselves. They develop skills that are critical for future leaders: cross-cultural communication, adaptability, collaboration, and global awareness.

Why It Matters for Teens
Participation in an international exchange program can be a transformative experience for students. It broadens their worldview, builds confidence, and inspires future goals. When students visit our sister cities, they engage in diplomacy at a personal level. They learn to navigate differences, build friendships, and represent Bryan-College Station with pride.
For many, these experiences translate into:
- More effective communication skills
- Greater appreciation for diversity
- Improved problem-solving and critical thinking
- Increased interest in global careers
- Lifelong friendships and international networks
Parent Perspective: A Head Start on the Future
Parents want the best for their children—academically, socially, and personally. International exchanges foster independence, maturity, and emotional intelligence. They’re a step ahead in a global economy where cross-cultural collaboration is no longer optional.
These programs aren’t just travel; they’re an investment in a young person’s future.

How to Get Involved
Each year, B/CS Sister Cities Association selects student ambassadors to represent our community abroad for a 10-day cultural exchange. If your student is curious, courageous, and eager to grow, this could be the opportunity of a lifetime.
Learn more about the program and upcoming application opportunities by visiting our Youth Ambassador Program page.
